Dear Geek Squad, I recently purchased an HP Printer, and when I am in the room watching it, it works perfectly. However, nearly every time I leave it unattended, the papers come out wrinkled, sometimes even shredded, with blurred ink. If I re-start the print job and babysit it, there are no problems. You can imagine that this has been very frustrating, and I would appreciate one of your technicians coming out to fix whatever the problem is. Thank you. (:52 sec.)
Do you have a strategy for finishing strong. Your reply may be discussed on the Radio Show this Monday night 09.08.08
Earlier this year, I attended Nascar’s Daytona 500 race. I don’t claim to be a racefan but I was given the opportunity to go, and also take my daughter, so I took advantage of the offer. I had heard a lot of things about the Daytona 500 – “It’s crowded, full of rednecks, lots of drunks, a huge party, loud, fun, exciting, awesome, and amazing.” (Fortunately or unfortunately, I’ve heard many of the same things about myself in the past.) Well, everything I heard about the race was accurate (to one degree or the other), and so much more. Overall, It was fantastic!
I have always wondered why anyone would go through so much effort to watch a bunch of cars go around and around, over and over. I’m glad I was open-minded enough to go see for myself. Not only was it a fantastic experience, I left with some unique insight as to how this particular racing sport has so many parallels to the race through life. Before I dive into those parallels I must say, if you’ve never stood close to a Nascar as it flies by at 200 mph, you should try it. Wow! After you’re pulling the rubber out of your hair and teeth ( I don’t have hair but I felt it hit my head!) you’re in awe of the speed, the feeling, and the ground trembling. I immediately had a new appreciation for the folks driving the cars.
The Goal – Each driver had the same ultimate goal in mind – come in first. You and I should also have this goal - finish first in life. We need not to finish first in comparison to others, simply to finish first in comparison to where we are capable of finishing. If we’re capable of giving more on the job, in our relationships, with our attitudes, or in other areas of life, then this should be our “finish lines” of life for the particular moment. Are you living up to your capabilities or down to your incapabilities?
The Strategy – since I’m not an educated racefan I will simply try to point out what I observed and also what I learned from those I went with. I will be discussing these strategies on the radio this Monday night at 6pm. The broadcast will be on our website by 7:15pm.
Your expertise, knowledge, or observation could be helpful in this discussion. We will share your replies on the air. Please identify your name, city, and state. Question; What strategies are used in Nascar racing that can also be used in the race of life?
Please reply by 10am Monday morning.
Here's one strategy I've noticed. The winner is never just one person. It's a group of people concentrating on specific areas where each individual is able to contribute to the team.
Are you trying to do it all in the race of life? Learn to focus on your strengths and allow others to help where you're weak.
