"Your self-image or inner portrait is exposed through your outer
performance" - James A. Smith
.
Radio: Self-image & Excelling
I'm constantly intrigued by self-image and the power it has, either
negative or positive. Dr. Joyce Brothers says "You can not
consistently perform in a manner that's inconsistent with the way
you see yourself."

In one of my life-coaching sessions last week I witnessed, yet again, the
amazing power of self-image. So many of us simply don't think about it. It's
almost as if it's a catch 22. It takes the characteristics of a healthy self-image in
order to see the devastation of a poor self-image. The question is, "If my
self-image is poor then how do I exercise a 'healthy self-image'" action? You
slow down to speed up.

Have you ever tried sweeping your floors really fast with a broom? The faster
you go, the less you get accomplished because the broom actually spreads and
scatters the dirt or dust. The wind created from the high speed brush blows the
dirt around and away from the broom. Once you slow down you're able to
sweep more effectively.

A poor self-image has ego written all over it. The kind of ego that will get us in
trouble often. It won't slow down to look for help or instruction but rather try
to solve everything on its own. Whether it's a spiritual choice of meditating or
leaning on God, or a simple decision to talk to a friend, you can often excel
after you choose to slow down. Once you slow down, even with a poor
self-image, you will often times be able to "see" the other perspective. The
beauty of self-image is it only takes a small glimpse of hope in order to start
repainting the picture.

You can start seeing a person who is smart, energetic, talented, hard-working,
and hopeful - a winner.
Then you will start being that person. You will rarely
be it before you see it.

radio series "Winning With a
Healthy Self-image.

Blog: My TV Interview, Cont'd
As a follow up from last week's blog, my interview will air
tomorrow on a Christian TV show, It's Time for Herman
and Sharron. It will air 8/18/08 on CTN at 10am and 5pm.

In last week's blog I talked about how surprised I was to see myself on a
TV camera. The fact I had been going up and down (more up) with my
weight for a few years. And how the "different view" was painful to begin
with but ultimately it turned out to be good. How?

I'm eating healthier and doing more exercise. I feel better and more hopeful.
I'm avoiding foods that seemed very tough to avoid in the past. My
confidence has increased and all of this has increased my self-image.

Have you seen an unpleasant perspective lately? Did you face it or run?
How do you feel about your choice?

Knock'em alive!

James
