Radio: Self-image & Attitude
"I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me, and 90%
how I react to it." That quote comes from the great
Charles
Swindoll. We discussed the importance of attitude and how it
affects our self-image on
last week's show "Winning With a
Healthy Self-image."

Check out what else Swindoll says about attitude, it's priceless:

The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to
me, is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than
education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes, than
what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance,
giftedness, or skill. It will make or break a company ...a church ...a home.

The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we
will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past. We cannot change the
fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The
only thing we can do is play on the one string we have, and that is our attitude
... I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me, and 90% how I react
to it. And so it is with you ...we are in charge of our Attitudes.-Swindoll

Inspiration: Video -  2008 Espy Award - Best Moment
It was an opponent's sacrifice that made it possible for these
ladies to win the 2008 ESPY Award for Best Moment in Sports.
It's a great lesson of giving up a cheap victory for a true win.
After viewing this I think you'll agree, they deserved the award.

Humor: Video - Cheerleader Dad
This video is both inspiring and funny. I'm not sure which
one does a better job! It's a TV Ad from

Blog: Stepping Over Dollars to Pick Up Dimes
Who, in their right mind, would ever step over dollars
to pick up dimes? Well, the reality is....most of us!
What it really means is we will spend our time on
things that aren't of the highest priority, in other
words - majoring on the minors.

On last week's show we talked about the need for allocation and how it will
increase your self-image. Allocation is simply putting things or people where
they need to be, in the proper and/or most effective spot. This includes you
and me. I struggle with this constantly whether it's a lack of money or other
resources. I often find myself spending time on things that someone else
should be doing. Things like:

Computer programming, Website maintenance, Radio show
editing/producing, paperwork, filing, pool cleaning, or researching.

Granted, some of those things simply have to be done by myself until I can
afford to have another person help me. But what about the things we get
"stuck" in over long periods of time? The fact is, many of us are poor at
allocating, we try to do it all. Here are a few reasons we do this:

Trust issues - if you want it done right do it yourself
Control issues - be in charge of everything
Recognition issues - want full credit for everything

There's more but you get the gist of it. Amazingly, you will never get far
until you learn to allocate. Allocation takes risks, guts, inner security
(healthy self-image), trust, and faith. Allocating means we're admitting that
we can't do it all. It means we're willing to accept the way someone else
does things, even when it's not exactly how or when we want it done.
Certainly this can get us in trouble, it can cause some stress, and even cost
us some money. But it will never cost as much or bring you as much stress
as when you
don't allocate.

Watch any great leader and you will notice they're excellent at allocating.
Most of them have even allocated another person to do the allocating for
them! Could you imagine the President of the U.S. going out and mowing
the yard around the white house once per week? It needs to be done but if
he were to do it he would be stepping over dollars to pick up dimes. He is
far more effective by allowing someone else to focus on mowing while he
focuses on his strengths.

All of us step over dollars to pick up dimes. The less you do it, the more
you will win in life. There are over 50,000 ways to make a living in the U.S.
If you tried to do all of them you would starve. By focusing on your
strengths, you will not only increase your self-image, you will also allow
others to get good at the things you have no business doing. Surprisingly,
you will learn that other folks have some pretty good ideas and creativity in
doing things, often times better than you. Learn more about your specific
strengths by knowing your
personality type.

What areas of your life do you tend to get caught up in? How have you
overcome allocation challenges?

Knock'em alive!

James
