"When someone says 'It's just between you and me,' rarely will it
ever be just between you and them" - James A. Smith
.
I have no respect for justice. I maim without killing. I break
hearts and ruin lives. I am cunning and malicious and gather
strength with age. The more I am quoted the more I am
believed. I flourish at every level of society. My victims are
helpless; they cannot protect themselves against me because
I have no name and no face. To track me down is impossible. The harder you
try, the more elusive I become. I am nobody's friend. Once I tarnish a
reputation, it is never the same. I topple governments and ruin marriages. I end
ministries set up by God. I ruin careers and cause sleepless nights and
indigestion. I spawn suspicion and generate grief. I make headlines, headaches
and heartaches. I make innocent people cry in their pillows. Even my name
hisses. Who am I? I am called
gossip. I come in many forms: Church gossip,
Office gossip, Shop gossip, Party gossip, Telephone gossip, and Online gossip.

If you gossip your self-image is negatively affected. Wanna know how? See
my blog below or check out
last week's show. "Winning With a Healthy
Self-image."
Our radio show discusses the good, the clean, the pure, and the positive. If

Humor: Video - Laughter is the Best Medicine
This video will certainly cheer you up. This baby is in a
mighty blissful state.
.
My personality type (I - see personalities here) is prone to
be a gossiper. I used to love gossip. It was fun, funny, and
gave me great value to point the finger at others - so I
thought. Like many drugs, gossiping delivers a surface
value that's hollow and deceitful. Let's not fool ourselves, if
we didn't get something from it we would not do it.

If we go beyond the surface and look at the reality of gossiping we can
conclude the following:

  • Gossips gain value from other people's pain.
  • Gossips escape from their own reality
  • Gossips manipulate in order to feel better about themselves
  • Gossips are themselves hurting people, who look to ensure others are
    as well(misery loves company)
  • Gossips are afraid to look in the mirror.
  • Gossips are uncomfortable in their own skin.

I could go on but you certainly get the point.

When you and I gossip we are saying that we are not willing to mind our
own business. We're not willing to be proactive at growing inside ourselves.
We do not like what we see in the mirror or what it will take to make
ourselves better. Therefore we will mind other people's business. It's one of
the ultimate self-image let-downs.

It takes a lot of inner security to withhold gossiping.
Anytime we're looking
to gain value from someone outside of ourselves we will be tempted to
gossip. Why? Because gossip always promises a return of perceived self-
value, initially. It deceives us into thinking we will, at that very moment, feel
more significant or valuable. But inside it's slowly depositing scars and
blotches in our inner portrait called self-image.

If you have challenges with gossiping there's hope! While I may not have it
perfected. I can say with confidence that I'm happy enough, in my own skin
today, that I do not need to talk about, share secrets, or beat up on others in
order to feel valuable. My self-image is healthy enough to allow me to mind
my own business. By minding my own business I have more time and
energy to grow on the inside so I can give on the outside. In return, my self-
image in being increased instead of decreased.

Wanna stop gossiping? Increase your self-image. I guarantee you it will not
only keep you from gossiping, it will also help you win more out of life than
you ever imagined.

How do you feel when you know a person will repeat what you've shared
with them? How have you overcome gossiping?

Knock'em alive!

James
