Considering the current challenges in the economy it was no surprise when last month’s event filled up just 10 days after announcement. James A. Smith knows what it’s like to struggle in the workforce, both as a salesperson and business owner. He started as a door-to-door salesman in 1990. Surprisingly, he made a million dollars selling vacuum cleaners. Although, according to him, he starved initially. After a divorce and losing it all, he changed careers and became a Mortgage Broker. “I’ve been rich and broke more times than I care to admit. But through my difficulties, I now live my purpose of encouraging others to be the winner they were born to be! It can become easy to beat up on ourselves when times are tough. The last thing a salesperson needs is low confidence. This is a seminar to help people become better salespeople and more importantly, better ‘people’”, Smith says.

James is a local radio host on AM1280 WTMY. The name of his show – “I Was Born to Win” He has been a long time follower of the best-selling Author and mega motivational speaker, Zig Ziglar. “I’ve never met my real dad and perhaps this is just one of several reasons I have so much love for Zig Ziglar. He’s an amazing salesman, motivational speaker, and human being” says James, who closed down his Mortgage Branch to be an independent speaker/trainer with Ziglar Performance Group in 2005 and 2006. Through that affiliation he met one of Ziglar’s greats, Bryan Flanagan, who has been with Ziglar for 26 years and is currently the Director of Ziglar Corporate Sales Training.
