Winning Vs. Losing

I was born to win! (Your name here)
Winning is for losers. If you have ever been called a loser or felt like a loser, you’re a prime candidate for winning! To confirm such a statement, I ask you to let your mind ponder. Imagine, for a moment, that you win at everything you try. You consistently come in first place, complete everything you start, obtain exactly what you desire, and always get your way. You are simply the cat’s meow.
Now, imagine you always lose at everything. You always finish last - if you finish at all. You never achieve anything. If it was raining money you would get hit in the head by a bill collector. Nothing ever goes your way.
If you were given the choice between always winning and always losing, I think it’s fair to say that you would pick the always win route. After all, typically, winning is pleasurable and losing is painful. However, if we were always winning, it could not be pleasurable. Why? Winning is only valuable because of losing. Ironically, losing is necessary in order to win. It’s the pain from losing that makes the pleasure from winning so desirable. Just like hot and cold, how could we ever know the value of being warm if we have never been cold? If you’ve never lost, you will not qualify as a good candidate for appreciating the joy of winning. Have you ever lost at anything? I certainly have and once I realized this, I knew I was very qualified to enjoy winning and so are you!
Who are some of your favorite winners in life? Are any of them sports figures? How about a Hollywood star, a singer, teacher, preacher, president, friend, or parent? If you could be one of them, who would you be? Seriously, if you could be anyone in life, who would it be? Do you have a specific name in mind? Why would you want to be that person? Will you write down your answers so we can refer back to them?
I would be because
Here are a few other questions to think about.
? If winning is so wonderful, why aren’t there more winners in life? ? Do you believe it’s easier to win or to lose? ? Why hasn’t anyone written a book that teaches us how to lose at life?
I have never heard of anyone signing up for a course on advanced lying, selfishness, or hatred. I’ve never heard of a social group or network called the losers club. Whenever I speak on this subject, I ask the audience, Is there anyone here who wants to be a loser today? So far, I’ve never seen a hand raised. There is simply no market for people who want to lose. Then I ask you again, why are there not more winners in life?
I asked you earlier to choose one person in the whole world that you would want to be if given the choice. Out of the six billion people on earth today, who is that particular one that is so special? I hope the lucky winner that won your heart, above all the others, is…you! Unfortunately, many people will choose someone besides themselves. There was a time I would have made many other choices besides myself. It is very difficult to consistently win in life until we accept ourselves. You are qualified, right now, to be that special winner you were born to be. The opinion you have of yourself has more influence on you than any other opinion in this world. In addition, the opinion you have of yourself determines how you will be influenced by the opinions of others.
Regardless of where you are in your journey through life, you will discover more of your inner winner, not when you complete this book, but as you read it. Not because of the book - because of you. The information in this book is simply a tool. Like any other tool, it will produce according to how the craftsman (you, the reader) uses and applies it.
Here are just a few things you can expect in this book. You will be challenged and motivated by seeing different views of yourself and your desires. You will learn about different personality types and why you do the things you do. You will identify and build upon your unique strengths. We will discuss what it means to have a specific purpose in life and ways to identify or confirm yours. You will learn the positive sides to both fear and pain. You will discover why only three percent of the population has a goals system and if it’s worth it. You will learn a powerful and effective system for replacing bad habits with good ones. You will feel more empowered and hopeful.
I, personally, have been a student of what you’re about to read. It has made a profound difference in my life. I’ve always been pretty good at avoiding most troubles in life, except…temptation! As a matter of fact, the only thing I’ve ever been addicted to is…more. Perhaps you know someone like this. All joking aside, it was only a few years ago when I struggled with many destructive addictions (I cover them in more detail later). I didn’t like myself or who I had become. I didn’t like where I had been or where I was headed. Today, I am completely free from all of those addictions and poisons! More importantly, I am free from the poor self-image I had of myself. As you might expect, I am more excited about life than I’ve ever been. Or, as we say back home, I’m happier than a thrown back catfish!
While all of the following are very helpful and needed, I have never received treatment from Alcoholics Anonymous (A.A.), a counselor, therapist, preacher, psychologist, or psychiatrist. I have never been prescribed nor taken any type of medication to assist or treat any of my struggles. The treatment plan that worked for me is outlined in this book. Maybe you’ve never struggled with a specific addiction. Maybe there are just a few areas of your life that you would like to improve upon. Maybe you’re just looking for ideas. This is not a “one size fits all” plan. It has the flexibility to offer insight on areas that are specific to your life. You will certainly be familiar with some of the information. Chances are great you will enjoy a lot of it and might even disagree with some of it. But if you’re positively changed by any of it, then both of us will be able to say and validate with a little more assurance, I was born to win!
This book consists of six different parts. In the first part, I will share different perceptions of winning. We will then establish an applicable definition for winning and how it fits into your life. In parts two through five, I will cover the specific steps of how to win. Here are those steps in a first person, present tense, positive affirmation. It is my goal that you will say them to yourself often.
? I grow from the inside ? I give on the outside ? I gain from my pain ? I gauge my growing, giving, and gaining
In the last part, I share my personal spiritual experience and how it relates to winning. It’s the very experience which motivated me to write this book...
